South Euclid
Police Talk With False Lottery Winner
January 9, 2004

A South Euclid police lieutenant says officers hope to meet later today with a woman who claimed she lost a winning lottery ticket worth $162 million, then changed her story.

Lieutenant Kevin Nietert says no charges have been filed against 40-year-old Elecia Battle. Battle filed a police report and a lawsuit claiming she was the rightful owner of winning Mega Millions ticket.

Yesterday, she said she was dropping her lawsuit attempting to block the lottery from paying the award to 34-year-old Rebecca Jemison. Jemison is to get about $67 million after taxes.

South Euclid police have said Battle will probably be charged with filing a false police report - a misdemeanor punishable by 30 days to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine.
